Chiropractic and Prenatal Care

Today I want to talk a little about chiropractic and pre-natal care. When a women is expecting her body goes through many changes. One of these changes is the increase in production of the hormone relaxin. This hormone is important in relaxing the pelvis to prepare for birth and delivery of the baby. But it is produced systemically in the whole body and can cause mom to have discomfort arise in other areas. Most commonly in the ribs, low back and shoulders. Chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work can help relieve these symptoms.

As the baby and mom grows the pelvis starts to have strain on the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic cavity. Some symptoms of this are round ligament pain, sciatic nerve pain or piriformis syndrome, pubic symphysis pain and much more. As a chiropractor I can help bring balance back to these structures allowing mom to have decreased pain and proper pelvic support. When mom is in alignment it is easier for baby to make the natural progressions they need as the birthing process begins.

Research shows that mom's who get regular chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy may have reduced labor times, better chances for optimal baby positioning and more empowerment throughout the pregnancy.
